SOIL MANAGEMENT<\/h1>\n<\/div><\/div>\n\n

At Fontestad we are committed to sustainable farming practices that protect and enrich the soil.
\nWe maintain living vegetation cover, avoid tillage and herbicides, and apply ozone through irrigation systems to reduce fertiliser use and disinfect the soil.
\nThis way, not only do our citrus trees grow - the ecosystem around them thrives as well.<\/p>\n<\/div><\/div>\n\n

We apply ozone with irrigation water to eliminate harmful microorganisms (nematodes, fungi, bacteria, and viruses) through oxidation, ensuring the healthy development of our crops. This practice also allows us to reduce the use of fertilizers and insecticides. <\/p>\n<\/div><\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n\n

Vegetation cover<\/h2>\n<\/div><\/div>\n\n

To prevent soil erosion and promote biodiversity, we encourage the growth of ground cover and implement no-tillage practices in our plots. These practices protect the soil's structure and fertility, comply with European regulations against desertification, and contribute to more sustainable land management. <\/p>\n

Ground cover is a key ally of the agricultural ecosystem: it provides food and shelter for beneficial organisms, fostering stable populations of natural enemies of pests. Thanks to this, the need for chemical treatments is reduced, and more environmentally friendly biological control is promoted. <\/p>\n

Additionally, this ground cover reduces the runoff of fertilizers and phytosanitary products into rivers and reservoirs, and increases biodiversity by providing protection and food for birds and mammals.<\/p>\n

Its presence also helps prevent forest fires, promotes harmony between agricultural activity and the landscape, and contributes to a more balanced and sustainable development of the agricultural sector.<\/p>\n<\/div><\/div>\n<\/div>\n\n
